You budgeted and saved for your first home. Now that you’ve moved in. with far less stuff after Marie Kondo’ing your apartment, how do you decorate without breaking the bank?

Here are a few tips on decorating on a budget:

  1. Set a Budget. Know how much you’re going to spend, and have a little wiggle room in case of a decorating emergency.

  1. Prioritize the Bedroom. It’s where you spend most of your time so we suggest you splurge (wisely) in here. Your mattress and bedding are the most important items.

  1. Live First. Live in your new space for at least 2 months before making any huge purchases. Yup, that’s right. The way you envision your dream home is a lot different than actually living in it. You may find that turning the basement into your she shed/man cave is not a priority at all, but that redecorating the kitchen and living area is.

  1. It takes time. Life isn’t like a home makeover show. Remember that it is going to take time to decorate your new home and it’s best advised to not to buy everything all at once.
