Having a climate controlled storage unit is generally about two things- security and convenience. That being said, it can be all too easy to just stick your items in there and forget about them. But this can be a slippery slope. Next time you visit your unit, you may find yourself searching endlessly for the item you need amidst a sea of unlabeled boxes and random objects. Taking the time to properly organize your storage unit can save your future self a headache, and ensure you have what you need, when you need it. After all, that’s the whole reason you got your ProGuard storage unit in the first place!

1. Label, Label, Label!

You may think you’ll remember that you put your item in the second to last box near the right hand corner, but odds are that months later when you need it, you’re going to totally forget. Use a marker, or if you’re feeling fancy, a label maker to accurately label all your items for extra easy access.

2. Create a Master Contents List

Trying to remember which items are in your storage unit and which ones are in your home can be tricky in and of itself. By creating a list of each item that you put into storage, you can identify what is where faster than you can say ProGuard climate-controlled self storage unit.

3. Pick One Size of Box

By using the same size of box for all your items, you can easily stack and organize as needed. Don’t be afraid to put items in multiple different categories in the same box either. As long as they are labeled properly with what’s inside (see tip #1)  you’ll have no problem locating exactly what you need.

4. Reorganize

If you already have your storage unit packed full of mismatched boxes without labels, it’s worth it to take some time to unpack and repack to make your life easier. Go box by box, reorganize and label into the new container, add it to your master contents list, and place it according to how often you need to access those items. Your future self will thank you!
