There’s a reason why Houston ends up on every short list for the ‘Top Cities in America’. It’s home to one of the best culinary scenes in the country, boasts a fairly reasonable cost of living, and combines the friendliness of a small town with the hustle and bustle of a big city. From dive bars to wine bars, there’s truly something for everyone in Houston. And just in case you needed another reason to fall in love with Houston, it’s one of the most dog-friendly cities in the US! Whether you like to plan your adventures or are more of a spur-of-the-moment free spirit, there are endless bars, restaurants, parks, and other activities that not only allow dogs, but welcome them with open paws.

1. Eats and Treats

Whether you’re in the mood to grab a quick craft brew or sit down for a 3 course meal, Houston has dog-friendly options for every breed.  Grab Sunday Brunch at Tony Mandola’s Gulf Coast Kitchen or Cafe Benedict, where pups are welcome on the porches and patios. Looking for something a little more laid back? Check out Liberty Station. In addition, Houston is home to an endless rotation of drool-worthy food trucks. We also love Axelrad, which welcomes pups both inside & outside, and  offers a large outdoor space dotted with hammocks just begging to be sunk into.

2. Barks and Parks

Houston is sometimes called the Greenest City in the South for it’s selection of gorgeous

parks, nature walks, and other outdoorsy options. For a pawesome time, check out Congressman Bill Archer Bark Park, a sprawling off-leash dog park that includes agility equipment, a pond, and plenty of benches and shade for the two-leggers. There is sure to be more than one tail wagging at the Market Square Park in downtown Houston’s Historic District. Perfect for a spring-time picnic on the sprawling lawn or puppy play-dates in one of two fenced in, off-leash dog parks, complete with doggy water fountains.

3. Sit and Stay-cation

Sometimes it’s fun to be a tourist in your own town. You get to explore the city with fresh eyes, relax and unwind all without the expense and hassle of cross-country traveling! With Houston’s numerous dog friendly hotels, it’s never been easier to sit, stay, and enjoy the city in a whole new way.  Feeling luxurious? Book a stay at the Four Seasons Hotel Houston to make some furever memories. For their four-legged guests, they offer food/water bowls, as well as a whole pet friendly room service menu to cater to your pups every whim. For their two-legged guests, it’s worth mentioning that there are no additional pet fees, and that’s nothing to bark at! For stunning city views and a self-described ‘feast for the senses’, check out Hotel Zaza.  In addition to private poolside cabanas, Hotel Zaza offers a world class spa, fitness center, and of course pet friendly rooms.
