If you’re like us here at Proguard Storage, your day just isn’t complete without at least one or two (or a few more) great cups of coffee. While you can brew up a cup on your own, it’s always better if you can sit down and relax in a local coffeeshop. Fortunately for us here in Houston, we have a variety of great coffeeshops always serving something new and delicious. In fact, several new shops have recently opened. If you’re ready to give them a try, here are our picks for the five hottest new coffeeshops in Houston.
Giant Leap Coffee
Offering a relaxing atmosphere and a variety of coffees you won’t find anywhere else, Giant Leap Coffee will turn you into a regular customer very quickly. Along with the great-tasting coffee, you’ll also find plenty of delectable treats like cookies, cakes, and muffins, all of which are sure to please your taste buds no matter what time of day you stop by for a snack. When you stop by, expect to be served by baristas who certainly know their coffees and always greet you with smiles and helpful tips if you’re having a hard time deciding what to get.
Using its own coffee beans that are always freshly brewed, Cavo Coffee is already considered to be a real hidden gem in Houston. Featuring many muffins of all flavors to go along with your coffee, this coffeeshop also features many different types of cold brews for those of you who like an iced coffee now and then. Made in glass towers that allow you to watch the entire four-hour process from tower to your cup, you’ll find yourself mesmerized by both the shop and its coffee.
The Nook Cafe
Although this coffeeshop is located on the campus of the University of Houston, don’t make the mistake of assuming it is reserved only for Cougar Nation. In fact, once you walk inside, you’ll find plenty of people of all ages sitting around enjoying themselves. If you want to order something that will be an instant hit with your mouth, try the combo of a pumpkin cream cheese muffin and creamy cappuccino that has just a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. While you’re enjoying your coffee and muffin, you might also find yourself listening to a poem being read or someone playing a guitar and singing, since the Nook has an occasional poetry reading or live music night now and then.
A coffeeshop opening that has been highly-anticipated by many folks in Houston, owner Max Gonzalez recently opened Amaya Coffee, and needless to say the early reviews are fantastic. Located in The Jones on Main, Amaya Coffee has perhaps the widest array of coffees of any shop in Houston. Considered a high-end coffee shop by some, it has a reputation for always giving its customers something new and exciting to try. For many customers, their day isn’t complete without stopping by for a Cortado. A Spanish mix of flat-steamed milk and espresso, the taste will simply blow your mind. Along with this, more and more customers are discovering the Amaya Affogato, which is a mix of espresso poured over the shop’s unique collab coffee ice cream.
Yellow Cup Coffee and Tea
At Yellow Cup Coffee and Tea, it’s all about enjoying life in the moment. According to co-owner David Chin, those at Yellow Cup feel if you’re going to truly enjoy an excellent cup of coffee, you need to have as few distractions around you as possible. Because of this, you certainly won’t feel intimidated as you may at some coffeeshops. Instead, baristas are very approachable, and there are even areas for kids to play while their parents enjoy their coffee. As for customer favorites, many can’t go more than a day or two without having a cup of Yellow Cup’s West Bean coffee, which tastes much like chocolate and almonds.
Now that you know where some of the very best coffeeshops are in and around Houston, there’s no doubt you’ll need to start giving each of them a try. Once you’ve done so and are heading back home, you may be reminded that you have a few too many things cluttering up your home. If this is the case, be sure to stop by one of our seven Proguard Self-Storage locations in Houston to find out how easy it is to rent a storage area. Once you do, that next cup of coffee will taste even better.
