While you may already be tired of winter and looking forward to better weather, that doesn’t mean February doesn’t have plenty of fun in store for you here in Houston. If you are like us here at Proguard, you enjoy few things in life more than pizza. To commemorate this incredible delicacy, February 9th has been designated as National Pizza Day across the United States. If you plan to mark this very special day with a slice or two (or three, or four) of your favorite pizza, here are five of the best spots in Houston to get the perfect slice.

Frank’s Pizza

If you happen to be in the historic area of downtown Houston and find yourself craving a slice of pizza, you definitely have to stop by Frank’s Pizza. Often named as the very best pizza place in the city, it’s always busy, which is a good sign. Of all the selections on Frank’s menu, many customers go for the Scrumptious Supreme. Using a unique pesto sauce that has an amazing flavor, you’ll find this pizza covered with pepperoni, sausage, hamburger, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, and much more. Topped off with fresh melted mozzarella cheese, you simply can’t go wrong at Frank’s Pizza.

Bollo Woodfired Pizza

Tucked away in the Upper Kirby area, Bollo Woodfired Pizza specializes in Roman-style pizzas that have customers always coming back for more. Known for its pizzas always having a thin yet firm crust, Bollo cooks each of its pizzas in a special 800-degree woodfired oven, giving them a unique taste that can’t be found anywhere else in Houston. If you stop by, try the Texas Wagyu Beef pizza or the Shrimp Scampi pizza, both of which are customer favorites. Since the pizza pros at Bollo’s are always putting together new combinations on their pizzas, you’ll be able to get virtually any type of pizza you can imagine.

Dolce Vita Pizzeria

When you step into this pizza restaurant, you’ll feel as if you have been transported back in time to the early days of Italy. Located in the Montrose area, Dolce Vita Pizzeria has established itself as a place which uses high-quality ingredients on its pizzas. This, combined with the rustic atmosphere that encompasses a true Italian pizzeria, makes for a winning combination. Between the great pizza selections, wonderful atmosphere, and extremely friendly and attentive service given to its customers, Dolce Vita Pizzeria should be a must on any Houston pizza lover’s list.

Cane Rosso

Well-known throughout the Lone Star State, Cane Rosso recently opened a new location in the Heights. Needless to say, it has been jam-packed since it opened its doors. If you want to stop by and try its pizzas, plan on being in line for its famous one-of-a-kind Bianca pizza pie. Featuring a crust that is slightly salty but in a good way, the Bianca also comes with numerous fresh ingredients that can be tailored to your taste buds. Topped off with melted mozzarella cheese that is undoubtedly the creamiest and freshest found on any Houston pizza, you’ll find yourself planning your next trip to Cane Rosso well before you even finish your pizza. Also, make sure you are very hungry when you arrive, since Cane Rosso makes it a point to not skimp on its pizza toppings.

Coltivare Pizza and Garden

While last on our list, that does not mean Coltivare Pizza and Garden isn’t as good as the previous four restaurants on our list. In fact, for many of us here at Proguard, it may rank as the best of the best. Giving customers authentic pizza pies in a very traditional Italian setting, Coltivare Pizza and Garden features such great toppings as shredded pork, revival pepperoni, and smoked cheese. Most of the time, you’ll find a substantial line when you arrive for your pizza. However, don’t let that stop you. Getting some of the highest reviews from customers of any Houston pizza restaurant, any time you spend waiting in line will pay off once that first slice of pizza makes it to your mouth.

While you’re out celebrating National Pizza Day on February 9th, don’t forget about all that stuff you’ve got at home that could be stored elsewhere. Rather than have your attic, basement, or garage filled with stuff you’re always having to move out of your way, stop by one of our seven Proguard locations to inquire about renting a storage unit.
