If you are like us here at Proguard, there is nothing better than eating a delicious hamburger. We’re sure you’re also like us in that you’ve circled May 28 on your calendar, since this happens to be National Hamburger Day across the country. A staple of the American menu, the hamburger has evolved over the years to become a true culinary creation that can be customized in many different ways. If you’re ready to set out across Houston to find the ultimate hamburger, here are five local burger joints you’ll definitely want to stop by and place an order.

Best Local Burger Joints In Houston

Cliff’s Old-Fashioned Hamburgers

After you’ve worked up an appetite dropping by your Proguard storage facility to pack away some clothing or other items you won’t be needing for awhile, you can head to Fountain View Dr. and have a bite to eat at Cliff’s Old-Fashioned Hamburgers. Priding itself on making all of its burgers from scratch and with the very best ingredients, the biggest problem you’ll have is trying to decide which burger to try. If your hunger is in overdrive, we suggest you try Cliff’s Brisket Short Rib Burger, which features a 1/2 pound beef patty on a bun that’s stuffed with mayo, mustard, lettuce, pickles, onions, and tomatoes. Also, you may like Primo’s Chili Cheddar Burger, which contains a six-ounce beef patty, grilled onions, cheddar cheese, and Cliff’s famous homemade chili. No matter which burger you choose, remember to add a side of onion rings or French fries, both of which are outstanding as well.

The Burger Joint

Considered to be an institution in the Montrose area of Houston, The Burger Joint is well-known for using only fresh Angus beef, meaning its burgers are always mouth-watering and big. If you like your burger with a little bit of international flair, we suggest you order a Kimchi, Mexi, or even an Opa lamb burger. While some Houstonians swear by these selections, you can’t wrong with ordering a Smoke Stack. With pulled pork, mac, and slaw, your mouth won’t believe the goodness that has tickled its taste buds. Should you want fries with your burger, add an order of hand-cut fries smothered in queso that is as creamy as creamy gets.

Bubba’s Texas Burger Shack

A Houston gem known for some of the Lone Star State’s best burgers, Bubba’s Texas Burger Shack is a place you’ve just got to visit now and then. If you’re like many who regularly eat at Bubba’s, you’ll come to love the Vegas Burger. Featuring a juicy buffalo patty, it also contains bacon, avocado, Monterey Jack cheese, a fried egg, and Bubba’s very own signature habanero hot sauce. For your side, we think you’ll enjoy the jalapeno potato salad. Also get you a cool soft drink as well, since between the hot sauce and jalapeno potato salad, your mouth will need some cooling off.

Hubcap Grill

In the Houston Heights area, there is no better burger joint than the Hubcap Grill. Known for its pure and simple burgers, many customers can’t wait to start eating the Hubcap Decker, which has double meat, double cheese, and whatever other additions you prefer. In fact, the Hubcap has a wide range of toppings for its burgers, ranging from fried eggs to grilled mushrooms and everything in between. Once you’ve got your burger, we suggest you summon the courage to try the Hubcap’s “Hell Fries,” which combine jalapenos and spicy mayo that sets your mouth ablaze.

Stanton’s City Bites

Considered to be the old-school member of this group, Stanton’s City Bites has been around since 1961 and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Featuring a menu of 13 burgers, each one is made of a 1/2 pound of fresh beef and topped with an array of homemade condiments. As for two burgers we especially like, the first is the Cowboy Brunch, which has bacon, house-fried pickles, fried egg, grilled onions, Swiss cheese, and American cheese on Texas toast. For a burger that’s spicier, try the Spicy Chipotle that has grilled onions, bacon, chipotle mayo, chipotle butter, and jalapeno jack cheese on a jalapeno bun.
