According to Punxsutawney Phil, who we are told did not see his shadow on Groundhog Day, spring is just around the corner. Here in Houston, winter’s chill may be short lived but can serve as an excellent motivator to stay inside and declutter your home by donating, throwing out, or storing items you rarely use or need.

Obtaining a Houston self storage unit to preserve your valuable, but infrequently used goods can be the perfect way to open up more than just space in your home; you may feel so liberated after you’ve completed your organization that you’ll want to get out of the house to enjoy some of the many things to do in Houston in February, including:

  • Ice at Discovery Green – You still have a few more days to enjoy ice skating in Downtown Houston, as the model boat basin will remain frozen for use as a skating rink until February 7. With the largest ice skating surface in the southwest at 7716 square feet, a separate ice play area located right next to the main rink for toddlers to explore, and different themes occurring on particular evenings, your whole family will appreciate the fun!

  • Mardi Gras Galveston – Although not in the city itself, those willing to make the short jaunt over to Galveston have the opportunity to take part in the nation’s third largest Mardi Gras celebration. Events take place between January 29 and February 9, so you can still participate in the lavish parades, concerts, balcony parties, and more.

  • Field of Light – Discovery Green hosts this dazzling artistic display of 4500 glass spheres atop slender stems and illuminated by fiber optics. Designed by Bruce Munroe and accompanied by a host of free performances on select evenings, you can enjoy a Houston evening among this Field of Light until February 21, 2016.

  • Women’s Olympic Soccer Qualifiers Finals – Between February 10 and February 21, take the opportunity to head down to BBVA Compass Stadium and watch the Champion World Cup Women’s Soccer Team compete against eight other countries for two spots in the 2016 summer Olympics.

Although we’ve just scratched the surface of the long list of exciting things to do in Houston in February, we hope that you and your family will be inspired to get out and enjoy some of the fun. With your house in order and your valuables safely in a Houston self storage unit, you’re likely to feel a bit frisky and be ready to get out on the town.
